WSIB Investigations
Activity and background checks on workplace-injury claims when the file does not match the reported limitations.
WSIB investigations test whether a workplace-injury file still matches the worker’s real activity. Ontario employers and their representatives use Investigations Plus when the reported limitations, the medical story, and the life being lived appear to have drifted apart. This is not a campaign against injured workers. It is evidence work on a statutory claim so return-to-work, modified duties, or a dispute can be decided on facts.
When this service is the right file
- A worker is certified unable to perform tasks that neighbours or cameras already show them doing.
- The accident description keeps changing and witnesses were never properly canvassed.
- Concurrent employment, cash work, or a side business appears while the claim remains fully off work.
- A long-duration file needs a current activities check before a hearing or case conference.
- You need a clean record of job-site conditions or of the alleged event, not hallway rumour.
How the investigation is done
We read the Form 7, Form 6, medical restrictions, and return-to-work offers first. Surveillance, if used, is aimed at functions named in the restrictions: lifting, bending, driving, stamina, bilateral use of hands. We do not film people at medical appointments as theatre. Accident reconstruction at the workplace uses photographs, measurements, and witness interviews. Social-media review is done carefully and sourced. Reports speak the language of functional ability, not mockery.
What you receive
- Activity logs mapped to claimed restrictions
- Lawful video of physical tasks
- Witness statements from the accident or from later work activity
- Open-source material with capture dates
- A chronology for the case manager or counsel
Legal and ethical limits
WSIB files are governed by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Surveillance must still obey privacy and criminal law. We do not trespass on the worker’s home. We do not contact treating physicians by pretext. If the employer’s motive is retaliation for a claim, we will not dress that up as investigation.
Who typically retains this work
Employers, third-party administrators, and counsel. Workers looking for help with a claim need a different kind of advocate; this page is evidence for the workplace accident system.
Where we handle these files
Ontario is the home statute. If the worker is now living elsewhere in Canada, we still document activity there because the claim remains Ontario’s.

They can consider it. Quality, identification, and relevance to restrictions matter more than volume.
