Night Vision Surveillance
After-dark observation with specialized equipment when the activity that matters happens at night.
A lot of the activity that matters in an investigation happens after dark: loading bays, late drop-offs, after-hours building access, claim-inconsistent recreation, or infidelity that never appears in daylight. Night vision surveillance is physical observation with equipment and tactics suited to low light. Investigations Plus uses it so the file does not go blind at sunset.
When this service is the right file
- The subject’s relevant window is evenings, nights, or pre-dawn, and daytime posts have already missed the event.
- A warehouse, yard, or shop is quiet by day and active after close.
- An insurance or WSIB file alleges limited function, yet neighbours describe night-time physical activity.
- A custody exchange or unexplained overnight absence needs documentation after 9 p.m.
- Rural or poorly lit industrial sites make standard cameras useless.
How the investigation is done
We plan the post with light, cover, and exit routes in mind. Investigators use optics that can identify a person or vehicle without flooding the scene with visible light. Vehicle lighting discipline matters: no interior lights, no unnecessary brake flashes, no lingering where a night guard will log the plate. Audio is not a substitute for seeing. Notes still carry times and what was actually visible. If weather, distance, or foliage will defeat identification, we say the limitation in the report rather than delivering grain that cannot be sworn to. Pairing night work with a daytime identification pass is common so faces and clothing match.
What you receive
- Low-light stills or video with identification caveats stated
- Logs that include lighting conditions and visibility limits
- Vehicle movement after dark with direction of travel
- Correlation to daytime identification images
- Recommendations for a second night if the first was inconclusive
Legal and ethical limits
Darkness does not expand our legal rights. Voyeurism, trespass, and privacy rules still apply. We do not film people inside bedrooms or bathrooms. We do not enter fenced private property because it is easier to hide at night. Safety of investigators on highways and industrial sites is part of the plan; we will pull off if the post becomes dangerous.
Who typically retains this work
Insurers, employers with after-hours loss, family clients, and counsel who already know the event window is nocturnal. It is a mode of surveillance, not a separate agency.
Where we handle these files
Night operations run throughout Ontario. Staffing two investigators is more common at night for safety. Out-of-province nights are scheduled as dedicated trips.

If the only proof that would change your file happens after dark, say so in the consult. We will tell you whether night vision adds identification value or whether you would be paying for black rectangles.

Questions about Night Vision Surveillance
No. Trail cameras on someone else's property create legal and evidence problems. We use investigator-controlled optics from lawful positions.
Sometimes, often not well enough to swear identification. We are honest about distance before we bill a night.
